Why Our Externship Sets Us Apart from Other DA Schools - CADAWhen we created our curriculum, we thought to ourselves, what can we do to set ourselves apart from the other dental assisting schools in the area? We know we have competition and we want everyone to pick a school that’s right for them, where they feel most comfortable. At Columbus Academy of Dental Assisting, we feel our externship truly sets us apart and gives the student an advantage when looking for a job after graduation.

Dental Assisting Externship

Our externship we require is 50 hours. This is where students go out to different offices and observe dental assistants. This allows for more hands-on and lots of patient interaction. Our students are able to see patients present with different conditions allowing the dental assistant to see what is done in different scenarios. In a learning environment, students learn everything at a slow pace, but it is important to see the real-world flow of day to day dentistry to ensure our graduates are prepared.

Dental Assisting Jobs

There are so many different types of settings a dental assistant can work in. From a specialty office to private practice or even public health like schools, mobile dental buses, the health department or local jail/prison, it is important to see where you feel you would best fit in. A lot of our students are super interested in Orthodontics, or braces, so they choose to spend some of their observation hours at an ortho office. Most of our students choose general dentistry, so they keep up with their skills which offers the widest variety of job duties. It’s all about personal preference when it comes down to it. You might discover a love you never knew existed during your externship hours. We have even had offices hire students that observed at their office which is a huge advantage.

I’m so glad I found this program! The small class size made it easier for me to focus and get the one on one help and attention I needed to learn as much as I could! Allison and all of the instructors did everything they could to make sure we would succeed in the field and find jobs. Even after graduation I know I can turn to Allison for questions or advice. If you’re looking for a dental assisting program I couldn’t recommend this one enough!!

This program is one of the best dental assisting programs in the area! Chassiti and Allison do an amazing job teaching this course and providing all the necessary learning that is needed to be an outstanding dental assistant. They go above and beyond and are always willing to help out, even months after you finish the course. The program is reasonably priced, there is a lot of one-on-one and hands-on experience with the instructors. Small class sizes allow you to really succeed and get any questions answered. I would definitely recommend anyone thinking about doing this program to do it! 10/10!!
